IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)
- Also known as Photofacial, Photorejuvination, and Photoderm
Intense Pulsed Light is a light therapy treatment that is designed to correct brown spots and photo-damaged skin as a result of excessive sun exposure, rosacea and other skin conditions. This non-invasive procedure is FDA approved and provides dramatic results with very little down-time. The procedure works by utilizing a light source at a high intensity over short pulses that penetrate the tissue and are absorbed into the melanin. IPL is used in the treatment of rosacea, vascular issues such as scarring, treating sun damage, pigmentation issues and even hair removal (pigmentation within the hair). IPL will not harm the epidermis (outermost layer of skin) and can be used on the face, neck, chest, arms, legs and hands.
Although this broad spectrum light has now become extremely popular with medical offices because of its effectiveness and low risk of complications, it is very important to find the right practitioner.
- Do your research. IPL is a very low risk procedure, however, it is not without There are strict protocols hinging on skin type and degree of treatment and a good practitioner will follow these guidelines and minimize that risk.
- Expect dramatic effective results, however, IPL is a not a fun, feel good procedure. In fact, it’s fairly uncomfortable (although typically completed within 20-30 minutes).
- After the procedure, the skin should be cooled for at least 5-10 minutes to remove the heat from the skin. A fan, ice, or a chiller is given to make the procedure more comfortable. You will still feel heat and need to continue to ice intermittently for 24-48 hours.
- Treatments should be scheduled at least one month apart and one to three treatments may be necessary. However, you will notice a great improvement after just one treatment!
This is a “wow” procedure providing results that will be noticeable in less than a week. Your friends and family will absolutely notice something is different about you. Follow up with great skin care at home and you’re well on your way to younger, healthier skin!
